USCC Grafton 100
Pro Open 5th Place Pro Stock 5th Place Grafton was our first trip out with the new Polaris Pro-Ride Rush, with early testing we felt the sled was going to work well. With two 5th place finishes for the day we learned a bunch and were optimistic going into the I-500. I felt the I-500 was the best test for our new Pro-Ride Rush. I ran into some mechanical issues like everyone else does in the 500 mile race but, because of our knowledgeable mechanics and stable equipment we had our best finishes of the season in the second and biggest race of the year. USCC Red Lake 200 We started Red Lake on a positive note, all things were going well. I was not a front runner at the beginning of the race. I found my pace on day two and was flying when I suffered sled issues. Somehow the bolt that holds the gas tank and seat together broke and I had to stop and fix numerous times which led to the 8th place finish. Soo I-500 We went to Soo with high hopes and our best snowmobile we’ve ever had. Things didn’t turnout the way we’d hoped. We had a piston failure early in the day, fixed the motor and continued to finish 22nd out of 31 entries, with a total of 66 laps down. I need to thank my backup driver Aaron Christianson who did an awesome job and we look forward to dominating the 500 mile track next season.
Grand Forks is a race I personally enjoy. I won pro stock in Grand Forks last year. The track was set up very similar to last years and the sled seemed to work well in the first race of the day. I started the final and felt great on the sled. Unfortunately, about half way around the first lap I suffered a front ski shock failure. I finished out the lap to cross the finish line for points and ended my day. USCC Monster Energy 100 (Fargo, ND) Fargo was a disappointing race for us. Fargo is my local track and I was hoping to do well in front of the local fans. A new location for USCC, using the Fargo horse track and their grounds made for a fun and interesting race. Laps were short and the course was demanding. Just after the mid point of the race a stud came loose from my track and damaged one of the heat exchangers which led to the motor overheating and eventually burning down. USCC Munising 300 Munising is the furthest away track for us here in MN. It proves to be one of the most demanding and difficult tracks of the season. The deep snow mixed with tight trails makes for some extremely rough conditions. It is a true test of sled suspension setup and physical endurance and conditioning. Here again I ran into some trouble with my sled, this time not mechanical failure just bad luck. I started out in the open class and on the first lap in a tight woods section hit a tree with my left ski witch bent the left side lower a-arm and steering arm. This changed the handling and drivability to the point I just limped in to finish and repair for the big race Pro Stock. In Pro Stock things didn’t go as planned either, a bad rear suspension call made the sled ill handling and dangerous to drive in the big holes. With one bad get off and many close calls I decided to slow down and save myself for the next day. Being a 2 day event I had Sunday to recalibrate and give it another shot. This is what I needed to prove to myself I can still do it, completing the course and getting the 3rd fastest time for the day gave me the 11th place spot overall. USCC Seven Clans 100 Warroad is one of the most fun tracks of the year. The track is set up with equal amounts of rough terrain and smooth ice to allow a good mix of suspension and speed. Warroad was a race win for me last year. I had high hopes on finishing well and ending the season on a good note. With all the mid season struggles and disappointments, I decided to get to the track a day early and spend some time getting the sled dialed in for the current conditions. Saturday’s race was great, conditions were warm for fans and the track held up for the event. Although loosing to fellow Polaris rider and teammate Aaron Christianson the day was a success with a 2nd place finish. All in all the sled worked really good and I had a shot at the win bouncing back and forth with Aaron for the lead all race, a blown belt on the last lap ultimately decided the result of my 2nd place finish in the stock class. Season year end points Consistency is key in the art of snowmobile racing. The never give up attitude landed me a 3rd place finish in the Pro Open Season points. Because of the midseason hardships and bad luck 5th place was the best we could do in the Pro Stock class for the 2009-2010 season. Congratulations to Arctic Cats Brian Dick and DJ Ekre for winning the year end points championships, giving Cat its first sweep of both Pro classes with USCC. 777 Challenge year end Points First of all a big thanks to Seven Clans Casinos for creating the 777 Challenge this year I hope this is going to continue for the future. This 3 race series consists of Red Lake I-500, Red Lake 200 and Seven Clans 100 all three events were sponsored by Seven Clans Casinos witch then held there our 3 race series the 777 Challenge. Because of my great finish in the I-500 with 2nd place in stock and 1st place in open my chances were looking good. I then placed poorly in Red Lake but still held good status in the points race, then to finish out with the good finishes in Warroad (Seven Clans 100) my 777 challenge points were good enough for second place in both stock and open classes. My congratulations goes out to fellow Polaris rider and teammate Aaron Christianson for winning both the stock and open class championships because of his 2 wins of the season at Red Lake 200 and Seven Clans 100 giving him top honors in both classes. Acknowledgements New sponsors for this year are Klim Gear, Rox Speed FX, Arctic FX Graphics and Edge Electric. I really enjoyed the experience to work with my new sponsors this season. Klim stepped on board this year with exceptional riding gear. I cannot say enough about the quality they provide and the enthusiasm with feed back to improve on already awesome products. Rox Speed FX provided us with hand guards this season that are truly the best guard I’ve ever used. A person needs to buy these necessary accessories to protect our hands from high winds and frigid temperatures. Hats off to Rocky at Rox for providing us with a dependable hand guard. Arctic FX Graphics created 3 new sled wraps for use this year, first a very cool retro package on the Rush, second was another cool retro package for the IQ Racer, and third was the mainframe package I ran at the Soo I-500 and on my IQ Racer at the end of the XC season. Edge Electric of Fargo stepped on board this year as a cash sponsor; we look forward to working with them again next year. Existing and returning sponsors Polaris, Woody’s, Walker Evans, Lube Tech, Pro-5 Racing, Wayne Davis Photography, and Camoplast. Polaris and I have a long relationship together and I hope to continue to work with them for years to come. Starting out my race career during the XCR era then moving into the Edge chassis followed by the Pro-X. Polaris then moved into the all new a-arm front end with the fusion and IQ chassis and now we are currently working with the all new Polaris Rush with its new pro-ride rear suspension. I have raced Polaris snowmobiles for 13 years and Polaris has been very supportive the entire time. Woody’s is another long time sponsor. Woody’s is the leader in traction products and have continued to provide the biggest variety and best traction products for all types of snowmobiling, racing and recreation. Walker Evans Shocks has been working with Polaris on performance shock packages for some time now and I was lucky enough to be able to represent them in cross country for the last 5 years. Lube Tech the company that formulates and bottles all Polaris oil’s, lubricants, fuels, etc. has also been a long time sponsor and I really appreciate the support over the years. My oldest sponsor and biggest supporter from day one has been Pro-5 Racing out of Roseau. They took me in as a rooky and showed me what it takes to win in all forms of racing. Burt Basset took me in as one of his own and I thank you Burt. I am very fortunate to be a part of these amazing companies. I thank each and every one of my sponsors, family and friends. So at this time a Thank You goes out to every one that has helped in our race effort. I appreciate you all and am very excited for our next season. |
