The Bunke race crew had a busy week qualifying and testing the #74 machine. The week at the Soo is always action packed looking for the perfect set-up for the Saturday show down. Thursday brought the first race of the week with the Woody’s Challenge. Taylor Bunke climbed aboard, piloting the #74 sled into the 4th position, turning the reigns over to his father after 20 laps to have him finish out the race. Gabe would have time to pick off one more spot landing them a podium position right behind the #537 Bunke racing #2 machine piloted by Alex Hetteen and Spencer Kadlec.

This would be the start of many caution flags for this year’s 48th running of the Soo I-500. There were more than 40 re-starts, dragging the race out to more than 10 hours of racing. The fans got their money’s worth standing on the bank cheering on their favorite teams.

Gabe and Aaron started the race in the 20th position Saturday and quickly picked off their way to the front. “This race is long and you need to know how to drive smart and save your equipment for the end of the day” says Gabe Bunke. “We wouldn’t be able to be successful without our team and the Polaris race shop helping us out. We are thankful for everyone in the pits- it is a true team and we have some very detailed people working on our sled.” Aaron took the lead at lap 429 and didn’t look back; he kept that machine out front for the remaining 72 laps.

Arctic Cat Riders Brian Dick and Wes Selby ran a good race securing the number two spot on the #15 Christian Brothers sled. “The Christian Brother’s team had a fast sled and I knew it would make for a great day of racing,” Gabe said. “We race with these guys back in Minnesota and they know how to ride.”

Up next for Bunke Racing will be the Seven Clans 200 in Warroad, MN February 27th and 28th and finishing out the USXC Schedule in Natahwaush, MN for the Naytahwaush 200 March 5th and 6th 2016.
